Dec6

Anxiety attacks are to dealt with a firm approach. A slight leniency in its treatment may change the life of a person completely. Anxiety attacks are triggered in the people who are extremely worried about something, people who are perfectionist, people who are socially avoidant and people who have encountered any kind of a child abuse. Another factor contributing to this disorder is the hereditary. Feeling of being trapped, helplessness etc rule the mind of the sufferer. A normal person cannot even imagine as how it feels being trapped in a box with no clear sign of exit and that too with an unspecified duration of time. This is just to make you understand the situation. The problem is however then times intense than this example.
Anxiety attacks are the experience of having overwhelming, uncontrollable dread as if you are about to lose your mind of about to die. These attacks drastically change the function of the body’s major glands as well as the major organs such as the heart, lungs, stomach, bladder, eyes as well as the largest muscle groups. Because anxiety attacks change these functions greatly, the organs and glands react to the attack by simultaneously flood the body through the bloodstream, making the condition even worse and resulting in the impulse to run, get out or hide. Anxiety attacks happen after several weeks or months of stress and thus, anxiety attack medicine should be administered on the patient.
40 million people, in America alone, suffer from anxiety disorders. While only 4 million amongst them have received treatments for anxiety disorders, only 400,000 have been treated properly. It has been proven through the medical researches that many people become addicted to taking these medicines.
People suffering from anxiety disorders tend to get inclined towards committing suicide. We are well aware of a reality TV show contestant, Jade Goody who was alleged to have made racist remarks against a Bollywood actress who said that she nearly committed suicide while she was in the treatment for depression. While she was close to the breaking point in an anxiety attack, she was admitted to the priory clinic for the treatments for anxiety disorder. There she refused to take off her coat. She felt that she would have to stay here if she would remove her coat. As per the reports of mirror.co.uk, we find her saying It was the worst thing in the world. I sat on the bed and I did not take my coat off because I thought, ‘If I take this off it means I’ve got to stay here’. So I had it on the whole time. I was on suicide watch because that’s how bad I was. “I can’t speak for everybody – but I just think there are so many people out there who are hungry to live and want a life. I just think that it’s a very selfish thing to do.” Jade Goody is a good example to show that the anxiety disorder patients have underwent some or the other form of child abuse. This would be clear by her statement that “I don’t hate my mum for beating me. I understand that she was frustrated and took it out on me.”
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) has been used as part of the anxiety attack cure. CBT is a form of psychotherapy carried out by trained therapists and it involves assessing the reasoning behind a patient’s thinking. This is based on the idea that abnormal thinking is a direct result of abnormal reactions. The goal of this therapy is to change this abnormal behavior. Anxiety attack medicine such as benzodiazepine tablets help give the sufferer short term relief due to stress related anxieties.
These medicines have a tendency to make the patients addicted. So consuming these for a long term is not a good idea. An alternative to the addicting anxiety medicines is Buspirone. This is less and addictive and gives a short term relief. Certain anxiety disorders such as generalized anxiety disorder, OCD, social phobia, and anxiety associated with depression can also be treated with anti depressants. Apart form medicines, counseling and relaxation also play an important role in treating anxiety disorders.
